Origin of the Countdown Christmas Calendar
Mothers are definitely the busiest people during the Holidays. They must run from one store to another, find a present for everyone, and get the groceries before Christmas Eve.
In spite of all their chores, they have a smile on their face, a parcel under one arm, and their children by the hand. To count down the days during this time of feverish excitement, the Advent calendar was invented. In fact, a German father created it a very long time ago. Wanting to contain his children’s impatience, he cut out religious images that he started giving them each morning until Christmas morning.
Very quickly, the small illustrations changed into cookies and candies. Thanks to this man, the Advent calendar was born. To this day, stores overflow with them a few weeks before Christmas. Usually, they include the entire month of December. A chocolate is hidden behind each day of the month.
You can also create your own calendar for your children. The wonderful Christmas rituals will then begin well before the month of December.
The possibilities for containers to hold the treats are endless: coloured envelopes, little cloth bags, small linen purses, etc. All you need is a little imagination and, there, you have your very own Advent calendar! |
