Christmas Carols a Tradition that Traveled

Children from previous generations used to sing Christmas carols at the doors of the people in their village. They were not alone. In Russia, the youngsters sang the Koliadki, the Koleda in Poland, the Kolinde in Romania, and in Italy, the Canti natalizi.

Everywhere, there are the same melodies, the same songs. The music has also successfully crossed borders. Today, youngsters sing Jingle Bells as well as Petit Papa Noël.

However, they no longer go caroling door to door. Have Christmas carols disappeared from our culture? Definitely not. They have simply become less known because of all the songs by popular artists that are played on the radio during the Holidays.

For youngsters who do not know the traditional Christmas carols, you can still find recordings to familiarize them with these songs from the past.

Organizing a musical evening is a nice way for young and old to share a few notes. Everyone will quickly get caught up in the excitement and the general
enthusiasm. The elderly can even share a few of their generation’s traditional songs with the young. It is a beautiful way to gather the entire family during this joyous time.
